Legal advisory documents and services overview

Three defined engagements

Advisory services with fixed fees and written outputs.

Each service covers a defined scope, runs to a stated timeline, and produces a written document. Fees are set in advance and do not change during the engagement.

What is available

Jasper Zone Lab offers three advisory services. Each addresses a situation where individuals or small businesses commonly need a specific written assessment rather than general information: recovering unpaid commercial invoices, understanding what a signed consumer agreement actually commits them to, and establishing a written basis for a business partnership.

These are not open-ended retainer arrangements. Each is a discrete engagement with a clear scope, a defined timeline, and a fee that is stated before any work begins.

Indicative timelines and limitations reference

Debt Recovery

~2 weeks

General civil claim limitation: 5 years from discovery. Review of your specific facts determines the applicable period.

Consumer Contracts

~3 weeks

Cancellation periods vary by contract type. Consumer Contract Act provisions apply to certain terms. Specific assessment required.

Partnership Agreements

3–5 weeks

Includes separate discussions with each partner. Longer where additional review or revision is needed after first draft.

Timelines and limitation references are indicative. Specific periods applicable to your matter are identified in the advisory engagement.

Debt Recovery Advisory

Civil — Service 01

Debt Recovery Advisory

For companies with unpaid commercial invoices. The engagement covers documentation review to establish position, identification of the applicable limitation period, correspondence before formal steps, and an honest assessment of recovery prospects — including cases where the cost of proceeding would likely exceed the sum owed.

Suited to small firms whose receivables have aged beyond ordinary terms and who need a clear written position before deciding whether to pursue the matter formally.

+ Written assessment of recovery prospects
+ Limitation period identification
+ Drafted correspondence where appropriate
+ Small claims route explanation where amount qualifies

Fee

¥28,000

Consumer — Service 02

Consumer Contract Advice

For individuals uncertain whether an agreement binds them as the other party asserts. The engagement covers cancellation rights, terms that may be unenforceable under the Consumer Contract Act, subscription and continuous service arrangements, and the routes available through consumer affairs bodies before any formal step.

Intended for individuals who have signed an agreement and have since encountered a position from the other party that they cannot assess without reference to the specific document.

+ Written explanation of the applicable position
+ Assessment of cancellation rights and unenforceable terms
+ Drafted letter where correspondence is appropriate
+ Consumer centre referral where the matter is more appropriately handled there at no cost

Fee

¥18,000

Consumer Contract Advice
Partnership Agreement Preparation

Corporate — Service 03

Partnership Agreement Preparation

For new ventures and existing partnerships without written terms. The engagement addresses contribution, decision-making, profit distribution, what happens when one party wishes to leave, and how a deadlock would be resolved. Three to five weeks, including separate discussions with each partner where appropriate.

Appropriate for partnerships at any stage — new ventures establishing terms before they are needed, and existing ones formalising arrangements that have operated on informal understanding.

+ Structured discussion of situations partners tend not to raise voluntarily
+ Separate discussions with each partner where appropriate
+ Drafted agreement with each clause explained
+ Advice on obtaining independent review

¥37,000

Which engagement suits your situation

You may need Service 01 if

  • A customer has not paid and ordinary follow-up has had no effect
  • You are uncertain whether the limitation period on the invoice is still running
  • You want to know whether formal proceedings are proportionate before committing to them

You may need Service 02 if

  • A business is asserting that you are bound by a term or commitment you are not certain you accepted
  • A subscription arrangement continues beyond what you expected when you agreed to it
  • You are uncertain whether a cancellation right exists and, if so, how to exercise it

You may need Service 03 if

  • You are entering a business partnership and have not yet established written terms
  • An existing partnership operates on informal understanding and a disagreement has arisen — or you want to address the possibility before one does
  • The partners have not discussed what happens if one of them wants to leave

What every engagement includes

·

A written document covering your specific position — not a template or a general summary of the relevant law

·

A fee stated at the outset that does not change during the engagement

·

An honest assessment of what is and is not viable, including where the proportionate route is a free one

·

A stated timeline that the engagement is designed to meet

·

A response to the initial enquiry within two working days

·

No obligation attached to the initial enquiry itself
